Gallery 2 Needs a Project Manager
Submitted by bharat on Thu, 2004-01-29 04:42
One of the most common questions I'm getting now is "When will Gallery 2 be released?". My answer is generally, "when it's done". Unsurprisingly, this is not a very satisfactory answer for most people, but right now it's the best one that I've got. The reason for this is that the Gallery 2.0 team is still pretty small and we're trying to focus on creating a quality product. None of us are particularly good (or motivated) at project management so it's been very easy for us to keep working on the product and not worry about timelines, deadlines, feature lists, etc.
However, Gallery 2 has become a stable and reliable product so it's getting to be time to figure out the timeline for actually releasing it to the world. Here's where you come in...
2/11 Update: We've heard back from 12+ qualified candidates already! We are in the process of interviewing them and moving forward so we are not entertaining new candidates at the moment.

Gallery on the political scene
Submitted by bharat on Sat, 2004-01-24 07:34
I was pleased to discover that both General Wesley Clark and Senator John Kerry (two candidates in the Democratic primaries for the 2004 presidential race) use Gallery on their website!
Obviously this is going to make it difficult for the Gallery voting bloc to decide which candidate to endorse. It's a tight one, but I think we might have to tip our hat to Clark for leaving the "Powered by Gallery" tag at the bottom of his Gallery install :-)
Kerry is doing pretty well in the polls right now. If he were to go on to win the primary, then the election we'd be able to say that the President of the United States uses Gallery. Booyah! Get out to the polls and vote, people!

Gallery Remote 1.2.1 Released!
Submitted by paour on Thu, 2004-01-08 22:28
The 1.2 release of Gallery Remote was problematic for some users, mostly on Mac.
After a couple of weeks, we released a Mac-only version of GR 1.2.1, which was well received, and today we're releasing 1.2.1 for everybody. It doesn't add any features, but since it fixes bugs on all platforms, all users are encouraged to upgrade.
- Mac version now works correctly
- Went back to previous version of ImageMagick on Windows to fix some of the problems encountered with the new version in 1.2
- Fixed drag and drop (some apps couldn't drop onto GR)
You can get it here.
Gallery Remote for Mac

As many Mac users complained, the 1.2 release was a disaster for the Mac version, and I had to roll back and offer the 1.1 release again.
This required decisive action, which we took: we bought a used Mac so I could work on making sure Mac users have a user-experience at least as good as Windows users! Read on...
