Note: This is a *pre-release* version, and you should be sure to BACK UP YOUR GALLERY *before* installing and upgrading your current Gallery. Read on for information on how to back up critical data...

We have provided a small PHP script with this version to assist you in making a backup. When you download and decompress this release, the script will be located in:
    gallery/setup/backup_albums.php
To run this script, put your Gallery into configuration mode, install the new software over your exising Gallery installation and copy backup_albums.php out of its location in the setup directory and into your existing main Gallery directory. Run this script from your browser. It will package the important album data and save a backup to your computer, in one of two formats: .tar.gz (useful on Unix/Linux systems) or .zip (useful on Windows systems).

The script gives you the option of backing up your entire albums ("All files") directory or just the Gallery database files ("Data files only"). While you should have a backup copy of all your photos, for most upgrades, it is sufficient to just back up the data files only. Note that backing up all the files could produce a *huge* file, since all of your photos will be included.

Finally, verify the contents of the downloaded backup file to make sure the files were indeed saved. Once you have the data files backed up, you can confidently proceed with reconfiguring your Gallery and updating your albums. Make sure you remove the copy of backup_albums.php from the Gallery directory, so visitors can't make a copy of your entire Gallery!

Hmmm, SF doesnt have the latest version on there, maybe I looked too early. :(

One change was not copied to the release and we caught it at the last minute. Check sf again and it should be there.

Ive downloaded three times and it says invalid something or other and the zip file is empty.

several people have downloaded it, including me. the sourceforge download stats don't update immediately. Currently, as of 11:15 EST on April 13th, 2004, the sf.net download server is not responding to requests. Check back in an hour or so and hopefully their systems will be back up.

Fullscreen slideshow is a must in order to show both portrait and landscape types of pictures on the single display screen. However, I don't like the fit-to-screen feature which makes the picture distorted seriously. Can I turn it off? I usually upload my pictures in 768 x 512 and I don't like to create an intermedate size picture so the fit-to-screen will make my pictures distored. Please consider to create an option to disable the fit-to-screen when the original size of the pictures is less than the size of the display screen. Thanks.

Agreed. I made <a href="http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?func=detailtask&project_task_id=97453&group_id=7130&group_project_id=34074">a task </a>to track it. It'll be in GR 1.4, which is in beta right now.

Would the future slideshow applet support other transition effec?
