Forums upgrade: complete!

I've upgraded the forum software on this website to a newer version. We were using a very old version of phpBB and I upgraded to phpBB2 which is far superior. No forum data wass lost, and everything should work pretty much as before, except with lots of new features. The whole process took less than an hour.

Update: Forum notification is working again!The current forum software is phpBB 1.4 running as a PostNuke module. I'm upgrading to PNphpBB2 which is the PostNuke module version of phpBB2.0.4. This new version has:

  • Improved search capabilities (both in terms of functionality and speed).
  • Support for uploading attachments to your posts
  • Much better navigation (ability to select topics by age, jump directly to a page on a topic
  • Ability to monitor an individual post for replies (yay!)
  • Ability to create polls with your posts

And lots of other features.

Unfortunately, there is no clear upgrade path from PostNuke phpBB14 to PostNuke phpBB2 so I'm having to write my own scripts to do this. I'll probably publish them when I'm done, if everything goes according to plan. Stay tuned.

I believe the phpBB2 mod you are looking for can be found here: http://www.phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=293<br />
<br />
Now, with that out of the way I have to go find a postnuke/gallery guru to help me get things working on my end.. :P The problem I am having is that after I install Gallery in the PN modules dir and get it all configured, I then activate it in the PostNuke modules area.. but the link to the gallery does not show up in the modules links on the main page of the site.. *sigh* Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Links don't just show up on the modules box, you have to add it. Just go to Admin and then blocks, list the blocks ad edit modules, there you write your title, the URL should be [gallery] and you are good to go.<br />
<br />
hope this helps

Much better design, thank you! That green was beginning to wear on me ;-) This is much easier on the eyes.

Big Job! Of course, I'm sure I'll love the new features, but it always starts with things that are "broken":<br />
<ul><li>No email notification! That's how I keep up. You'll be hearing a lot less from me, then.<br />
<li>Fonts: they're tiny on my browser (Mac OS X, Camino). First time I've had to use the "Bigger Text" Option.<br />
<li>Upload files: yes yes yes!!!!<br />
</ul><br />
I'll come back when I've found out what I else I like.<br />
<br />
Kudos for your hard work.

Outstanding new look. Much, MUCH, M*U*C*H easier on an old man's eyes. Did I say it was easier?<br />
Thanks!

I thought i was at the wrong site!! <br />
<br />
it looks great, a little slow, but it allways was.

The new site looks great. Excellent job.<br />

The site looks Great! Having not seen the green one, oh well, I enjoy the site. I'm just beginning to plan a new photo site to show my event photography and more. I have been exploring Gallery, and testing.

i first thought i miss-typed the url, but after a second and third look i was darn suprised: gallery.menalto.com has a new look!<br />
<br />
well then, actually, i liked the old look, it was unique. but black on white, on the other hand, is easier to read and the overall look is pretty good.<br />
<br />
good work, cheers - valiant

Hi, the new look is indeed yello-licious, great job.<br />
<br />
I would like to be able to go to my account page and see my recent postings, but so far all it says is there are none.<br />
<br />
Thanks again,<br />

Hi Jim!
<p>On my website I have a small collection of scripts to convert data from phpBB_14 to PNphpBB2. You'll lose the posting stats in the process though...</p>
