Gallery 3.0.2 bugfix release is available!
Gallery 3.0.2 is available, woot! This is a bug and stability fix release, but it adds a few new usability features. You should upgrade to Gallery 3.0.2 when you can. Upgrading is quick and easy! Read on to learn what's new and improved, or just download it now!
What's changed in Gallery 3.0.2?
We've taken care of a lot of small things in this release: bugs you've noticed, bugs we've discovered, and a handful of small features that were straightforward to implement in a backwards compatible way. Along the way we resolved 114 tickets! Some of the highlights of this release include:
- Considerable improvements to the image upload UI, especially around diagnostics when failures occcur
- Fixed a few bugs where the "forget password" link didn't work properly
- Fixed a bug that was causing the upgrade auto-checker code not to fire properly
- Improved search to support wildcard matching (see the forum post)
- Overhauled the Gallery 2 import UI and fixed many small import bugs
- Added support for splitting and joining tags
- Improved the Admin » Modules UI to show the author and info/help links
Upgrading
Upgrading is really easy! Unpack the new version, move the var/
directory of the old version to the new version's folder and then
either browse to:
http://your-site.com/gallery3/index.php/upgrader
or at a shell prompt:
php index.php upgrade
For more detailed upgrade instructions, please refer to
the Gallery
3 User Guide
Roadmap
Looking forward, we intend to make some major changes in the 3.1 code base. The big topics currently on the list include a lot of internal changes to make things easier for theme creators, some permission management UI improvement, and hopefully some headway into making Gallery 3 embeddable. Check out the Gallery 3.1 Ticket List for all the details.
Got feedback?
If you have any overall feedback, please visit the Gallery 3.0.2 Feedback forum topic and let us know! If you have questions, please visit the Gallery 3 Wiki, the home for Gallery 3 documentation.
No fix for the permission problem yet...
My other sandbox
Is this same as Gallery 3.0.2 (branch 3.0.x, build 35)?
It should be the same as build 40 on branch 3.0.x. Get the latest 3.0.x snapshot and you'll be up to date.

For a guy like me, I need this info in the instructions of upgrading:
*activate wind if you are using a different theme like greydragon or else you will get the "Dang.."
*Or move the theme as well prior to upgrading.
And perhaps the upgrader-page need a "home button" after upgrading has been done, instead of upgrade all button showing up again.
And when I'm done upgrading, I dont want to see the url in the adress bar ending with a failed:= ,cause nothing failed ;)
Just my 2 cents
My other sandbox
The docs are for users by users so if you find that the docs need clarification/updating please do so.

Your kidding me right? Your idea of an easy upgrade is to change the URL of my gallery? Do you realize I have thousands of links pointing to my old URL? I would have to change them all or setup some kind of redirect, this is ridiculous.
My idea of an easy upgrade is how Wordpress does it. I click one button and it downloads and installs the new software. Piece of cake.

First that's for upgrading from previous versions of Gallery 3, not Gallery 2 or Gallery 1. They are all separate products.
Second, if you're migrating from G2, read this:
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Modules:g2_import
There are rewrite rules given after the import process to redirect the old URLs to the new URLs

"First that's for upgrading from previous versions of Gallery 3"
That's exactly what I was talking about. I have Gallery 3.0.1 currently and I should just be able to dump the new files right on top of the old files, go to the upgrader URL and be done, but according to your instructions "move the var/ directory of the old version to the new version's folder", you want me to create a brand new install of Gallery with a completely new URL, just to upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2.
You need to make this easier, having to create rewrite rules (so my URLs will stay the same) for such a small upgrade is ridiculous.

You're over reacting. No URLs need to change with that upgrade. Read down to steps 8 and 9

Yo @ryanmc, c'mon man. You've been with us for years -- would we play you like that? The upgrade is easier than you think and won't result in you creating a new install. All that moving stuff around is just to prevent a couple of files that we created in earlier versions and deleted recently from sticking around in and causing you some problems.

Im with ryanmc on this one, Im glad i have some experience in linux stuff, or else I would have to start all over at every update. But I don't have enough experience to help out making the upgrade process a lot better.
bharat: The upgrade script can take care of the files we want to keep?
My other sandbox
Yeah, really all you need to do is unpack the new version of the code on top of the old code and replace it, then run the upgrader. The extra instructions just make sure that you wind up with a clean copy.

I'm with ryanmc. Too much of a pain. Hopefully this can be simplified for future upgrades.
Just great, I just updated from 3.0 to 3.0.2 and there's big difference in response time already.
Keep on the good work people, I love your application and I wish I could perform something as good some day.
Respect!
LOL I just overwrite my old version content with the new and so far so damn good.
I don't get the painful procedure to apply a "simple update"
+1
I'm with ryanmac on this. (even though he may be wrong about changing of URL stuff)
In 2011, upgrading is really easy means upgrading like Wordpress - single click and you are done...more and more software are moving towards this (Prestashop, Simple Machines, and of course bbpress and buddypress)
This should be one of the biggest focuses of 3.1
SoosKriszta
Csillamvilag.com
Bodypainting, Facepainting, Glitter, Henna
HennaLap.com
Guys, I've been with you since Gallery 1 and want to really thank you for all the hard work and fantastic software. From the previous comments, I can see that there's some tough love in the crowd, so I thought I should send a bit of appreciation from what I'm sure is the majority of the user base.
Keep up the good work and look forward to 3.1!
Worked like a charm for me. Sometimes I just have to think a little bit.
This is a great update, please keep up the great work!

My Gallery http://n7oan.com
I have Nas type of QNAP TS-212. Gallery3.01 runs on it. I want to upgrade the Gallery3 on the Nas but it has QPKG install system. Can I upgrade it on the usual way (i.e. copying everything into the folder and then view the upgrade web page), or it has a special way , or do I have to wait the new QPKG package? thanks
Is there anybody here?
Best bet would be to start a thread in the forums and not a news story.
