I've updated the PGtheme for Gallery 2.2 - and called it PGlightbox to separate it from Pedro's offical PGtheme (as I noted him working on the theme again).
I couldn't resist to implement a feature he's working on as well as extending the Lightbox view to the Photo Page by being fully compatible to the new Virtual Albums.

Update November 19: Updated to version 1.2.0 - Support for Lightbox 2.0.2+
- several fixes listed in the thread

See the Gallery-Codex Page http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:Themes:PGlightbox for help.

The Lightbox-PopUp on the Photopage (always using the 3rd Resize (until I find something more clever)

Virtual Albums - Rating, fully supported

Anybody interested? - if yes, I'll recheck everything and will attach a distribution.

Sure would be interested. Combination of PG theme and lightbox has got to be a killer!

This looks cool.

Glad you started a new thread as well. Can you create a codex page and put it in the user contibutions as well?
Thanks!

Yes, Great.
You might want to mention that it only works for 2.2 when you get the archive set up.

Excellent potential here Lutz, I congratulate you.

I've done a fresh install of gallery and your PGlightbox 1.1.2 and it works, beautifully, its a little slower than other themes, but well worth it!

I do see one minor thing,

If you go to my dev page (below), you will notice some photos in the top level gallery and 1 album. the album works perfectly, but if you click on the photos right on the first gallery page, you'll get a perpetual spinner. The solution obviously is to put all your photos into a discrete album. Just thought I'd let you know :)

http://dev.carpeannum.com/gallery

I am working all night to implement this just as I want it, I'll keep you up to date with any other issues.

Thanks, NOEL

I'm getting a fairly consistent problem of 'eternal spinners'.

If I take my time and browse through the photos slowly, then I think lightbox has time to load/pre-load all files, and everything is fine.

However, if I click 'next' to advance to a picture which hasn't been preloaded, I'll get an eternal spinner.

I'm not sure if I'm using 'pre-loaded' correctly here, but thats just how I would describe it.

Does this happen with other people? It would be important to fix becuase I know some visitors will run into this problem, and just give up.

Thoughts?

nlk public,

the preload is a little CSS function which loads the resize as hidden pick ready to be picked by the Lightbox, the Lightbox script normaly has an issue if invoked until the page has been fully loaded. I patched the offical script to allow initialisation already before the page has been fully loaded. (You won't see the spinning circle if it loads this 'preload').
The process of preloading will take some time - and if you click a "later" image to early, it will take until available ...

I have had a few photos too which resisted to be "lightboxed" and found that these give no ItemId (you see "ItemId= " in the Infobar of your browser) and saw that these are having really no resize available. I found having missed to update add a line in theme.inc - could you try the attached one?
I will update the distribution - including the changes for the latest SVN this night (Emergency Links)

using the new theme.inc posted above seems to work great.

Well done.

Everything looks great on Firefox, but i opened up internet explorer, and see some issues. Yes, we all know that IE is a pile of bullplop, but unfortunately half the visitors to my sites still use it...to my annoyance always trying to fix css issues.

Anyways, if a thumbnail is clicked before the entire page has started to load, it simply opens the picture file (e.g. it does not link to lightbox. Only when the page is fully loaded will the lightbox work.

Also, when at the photo page, the 'next' and 'previous' thumbnails (or text, if selected) are buggy. The previous button comes up with a width of about 100 px.

I don't mean to be negative, I'm just letting you know these little bugs. The theme is truly wonderful so far.

;) you're findings are really appreciated.
I'm hoping for a soon release of IE 7, which will finally handle CSS properly...
For the other thing - let me check the lightbox script ... can you verify that you load the lightbox.js from \images\lb\js ?

yes, lightbox.js is run from images/lb/js

But this only happens in my embedded gallery, and not the standalone, which is weird. So I guess I'll try to figure this one out on my own. Sorry for the false alarm.

-noel

another little bugger: only in IE (again)
as you can see from the pic attached, there is some sort of broken reference near the close button. I can't seem to find it in the css or anything.

Plus, while I'm here, one of the reasons I abandoned PGtheme a while ago was that its URL rewrites were funky. They still are, but at this point, they can be overlooked. They are simply an annoyance. For example, rather than example.com/v/album1, it would be example.com/v/album1/?g2_enterAlbum= I saw this discussed in another forum, but no resolution, just curious if you had any thoughts.

thanks, noel

the "?g2_enterAlbum" can be easily removed - just removing the arg3 from the item/resize calls - it simply ensures the album / picture differentiation.
I didn't see a reason to remove it (was never annoyed by it) but this could be a easy step to be removed (from album.tpl, where the URL's are formed).

Very nice Lutz. Just installed G2.2 and Lightbox. Really nice features and appearance. It makes a big difference to have the user's eye follow this interesting series of disolving and floating frames.

Question... have you thought about creating floating frames or boxes to handle metadata? Like EXIF, custom metadata fields, and so on?? This is something I have long felt was missing from image presentation... a way to present menus and functions in this floating manner, but also present metadata in this manner as well would make this theme really sparkle. What am I saying? It already does sparkle. Just thought to throw in the additional possibility of boxes containing metadata that can float too.

And Virtual albums, YES!

This is a really cool theme.

drhiii,

Thanks - the EXIF and Comment Blocks should already fly ...

have you already tried to click inside one of the EXIF's and move it?
Is this what you mean? Or do you mean addition Text-"Light"-boxes for the Metadata?

This looks quite cool.
The folks at TripTracker.net have decided to share their JavaScript slideshow with the rest of the Web.
Just import their script in your web page to add a cool popup slideshow.
http://blog.triptracker.net/2006/09/08/revamped-slideshow/

Not sure how well this would work for large albums.

swordfish, this looks cool - and easy to put into the code - if you navigate to an album page, you'll see an additional slideshow icon (on top).

Not really ...

I sort of gave up :$ ... I got to the point where the bar for the slideshow would show up but no pic loaded ... lemme see if my patience will pay off this time. I'm going to time it and let you know :-)

EDIT: it took about 2:45m to fully load the page and after that only 23s to load the slideshow thing.
Once it's all loaded FF works it's magic and navigating between picture is a breeze :-)

Hi, I am new here.
First of all thank you and congratulations for the beautiful theme (even if it's based on the good work of Pedro).
I have two questions:
- is it possible to disable the "Photo Page"?
- is it possible to show descriptions of a picture (IPTC caption) when it opens in the Lightbox?
Thank you,
Palinus

Palinus,
Thanks and ...
- disable the Photopage - in principle yes, but would require removing the Popup link
- show descriptions - yes, I currently take the Item Name - the markup should be no issue - I might make it configurable in a future release...

For the moment could you please tell me how could I replace the "Item Name" with the "Description" of a picture (if it is simple...). If not I will wait for a future release!

look in album.tpl around Line 665 for

{if !($child.canContainChildren)}
 rel="lightbox[x]"
 title='{$child.title|markup}<br><a href="{g->url arg1="view=core.ShowItem" arg2="itemId=`$child.id`"}">View Photo Page</a>'
{else}

and change to

{if !($child.canContainChildren)}
 rel="lightbox[x]"
 title='{$child.description|markup}<br><a href="{g->url arg1="view=core.ShowItem" arg2="itemId=`$child.id`"}">View Photo Page</a>'
{else}

will make the trick for the moment. (You can try to use " {$child.summary|markup|entitytruncate:256}", too - will make it probably more readable.
(You might have to play with the " and ' to get it workable.

Hello my friends!

I would like to congratulate for the nice theme, certainly it is a good improvement and it seems to be awesome!

I'm having problems trying to install the theme in my gallery, according to the specification it is not
compatible with my gallery, I'm receiving the following error message:

- theme: PGlightbox version: 1.1.2
- Gallery2 (v 2.2.x) based on PGtheme from WWW.PEDROGILBERTO.NET
- Incompatible theme!
- Core API Required: 7.0 (available: 7.3)
- Theme API Required: 2.4 (available: 2.3)

I did the check to get my version and it is the following:

- Gallery version = 2.1.2 core 1.1.0.2
- PHP version = 5.1.6 isapi
- Webserver = Microsoft-IIS/6.0
- Database = mysqlt 5.0.24-community-nt, lock.system=database
- Toolkits = Exif, Thumbnail, Gd, SquareThumb
- Acceleration = full/86400, full/86400
- Operating system = Windows NT DEDICATED 5.2 build 3790
- Default theme = PGtheme
- Locale = en_US
- Browser = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7

My question is: How to implement the requirements to run the theme? I don't know where I can get the Gallery 2.2-svn core 1.1.16

Please, does anybody knows how to help me???

Thanks!

Running Gallery 2.1.2 (typical install) with the Google-Map-Module-0.5.1d and the PGtheme I'd like to open the gallery item in the lightbox.
The lighbox should open clicking on the thumbnail in the infowindow on the google map.

On my myp it will open a flash file (swf) with a 360° panorama picture.
My target is to have only the google map with markers and infowindows, running the pictures or flash panoramas directly in the lightbox as an overlay on the google map.

Beeing new to Gallery2 I'm a bit lost where to start, at the Google module or with the theme?

URL for testing:

panoviews,

the Lightbox script handles only images - if these are available, the display in the lightbox is easy - I assume the Maps are a bit more difficult. But I found
already lightbox clones which are able to open even whole webpages. This could be a way - I see it for the moment more on the module - it would have to be implemented
on the 'map clicks' ... what do you think Termite?

Running Gallery 2.1.2 (typical install) with the Google-Map-Module-0.5.1d and the PGtheme I'd like to open the gallery item in the lightbox.
The lighbox should open clicking on the thumbnail in the infowindow on the google map.

The best way would be to create a new infowindow that would have the JS etc required for the light box. Look in modules/map/templates/infowindow/ for exsisiting examples to copy.

Start a new thread as to keep this one on topic as your case relates to the map module not this new theme.

Floridave,

Thanks for your reply, but I tried several times to understand the process of SVN and so far I'm still feeling lost with the monster documentation, could you please say some quick steps to start? I will do my best to catch up and do the rest :)

Thanks!

aagons,

It's quite simple. Go here: http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery:Using_Subversion

Still have problems, reply back.

aagons, if you want to avoid the SVN-hazzle, you might consider using the Nightly's until you get familiar with SVN.

Have been working with this great theme. Terrific enhancements to PGtheme. Really well conceived...

One issue I have noted. I created some Custom Fields and populated them with some metadata. When I go to display either Summary or Details, none of the Custom Field information is displayed. Anyone have any thoughts about how to manage Custom Fields, and how to get them to display from this excellent theme?

drhiii,

Thank You! I havn't included custom fields yet - only started to play with the other blocks to display a flying add comment.
Could you give me some more details what you like to achieve with the custom fields... I assume this could be a logical next
step but can't think about examples at the moment.

do you have a link to your gallery to look what happens - or a screenshot?
Can you confirm on my site (if not, it would be an indicator for an CSS mixup) (sorry, site is rather slow ...)
Thanks,

Holy cow!! This is great. I ***do*** have ideas or examples about how information, additional metadata, these custom fields, can be presented.

Here are some thoughts. I have LONG felt that G2 has so many excellent features. But something that is plain missed in all the online image applications is presentation. Here's what I mean...

When we walk into a museum, a gallery, even when we look at a coffee table book of photos, what do we look at first? We look at the image.

The internet has made all this, backwards.

It drives me crazy when I drop into image based sites, whether it is a photo site or a museum, whatever... because they all slap you in the face with text, and buttons, and clicks. I mena, we need these of course. But this is the exact opposite of how we as people come to an image. We view the image first. When we walk into a gallery for instance, our heads are up, looking generally at eye level, at stuff. Once we have looked at an image, we then look around for any other information that may be associated with the image. I don't care if it is a gallery or a book or Starbucks or Times Square.

So your PGlightbox is finally, FINALLY, the first thing I have seen that gets to this presentation method if "image first". Or as I say... leading with the image, and text or metadata is called in association to the image. All these sites that lead with text and stuff first are in my opinion, backwards to how we experience images in real life.

So having said all that, I am really, really, really psyched that you said you haven't implemented the Custom FIelds or other metadata calls yet but seem psyched, because I would totally get in to sharing some ideas. In my opinion, it would be a breakthrough in how people experience images on the internet. I know I know... there are examples of flying or floating boxes and screens, have been for a long time. But I have yet to see an truly effective use of this, and your theme, the vision of your theme, is knocking on the door of how to present images, how we maneuver in galleries, and what is soooooo cool now, how we can call into the screen, how associated information is presented too.

Can you tell I am psyched??? I would do this myself but I don't have these skills.

Let me spend some time this eve putting down some real simple ideas and see how you feel about them. But this is about the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. G2 is just plain awesome. But PGlightbox could add to it this idea of how we view images in real life.

Man, am I psyched or what???

Back later this eve....

One other quick thing....

I saw the image example of "coming next". Am I seeing the ability to change the color of an image via a flying box too?

Dang bro... I have more people asking for this ability as well... just the ability to change a color image to a monochrome so someone can see what that would like like as a black and white is something I get a lot of questions about too. I think you called it a configurable inline display?

If yes, this is yet another excellent piece.

I saw your comment about 'site is rather slow' and also remember reading that you wished you had a T1 and a dedicated server. If you would like, I have bandwidth and can create server space for you to work in if you would like. Anything to support this excellent theme work....

cinnix,
could you shed some light on your Gallery version?
Your not running the latest Development Build of Gallery2 (2.2 SVN or Nightly)

drhiii, the compliments for the color box go to the Core Team - this is new standard functionality introduced by the Core, its currently used to color texts - but doors are open - the possibilities are "there" ... didn't think yet about coloring and color schemes ...

... and I already feel infected a bit about the custom fields ...
