Do you have access to a better graphics toolkit than GD?
Have you tried ImageMagick or netpbm?
Thank's for reply.
No, I can't change the graphic tool as my web hoster doesn't have Imagemagick.
He also only provide Gallery 2.2 and I didn't succeed to upgrade to 2.3.1 or 3...
following error message :

Thank's,
I read and read again this FAQ's and I'm using pre installer but it doesn't download any file at all...
I'm trying now to download the tz file manually, to put it in the directory and to try again the pre installer as I can"t unzip directly in my web server.
well,
pre installer is for 2.2 version and doesn"t extract 2.3.1...
How could I extrac tar.gz archive by myself on my server ?

extract on your local machine, and ftp the files to the server, overwriting the current 2.2 files. 7zip is a free zip tool that can handle just about any format.
I suppose they are harmless but they keep space on the server.
is it still possible to delete them ?
Thank's for help and I really enjoy now the 2.3.1 version, although watermarks still doesn't work ;)
Yes, exactly the same message.
Do you think it's better to use version 3 ?

Well, its either a directory permissions issue where the watermark module is trying to write to g2data/plugins_data/modules/watermark and cannot
Or
Its your GD image toolkit failing.

Yes, eventually. It's still in development and I'm unsure of the watermark capabilities of G3
Also you will still be stuck with GD as your image processing toolkit.

That is very old, there have been many security and bug fixes since 2.2
Current version is 2.3.1

Ok but I don't understand where is this /var/lib/php directory ??
can't find it .
may be I should put all permissions to 777 ?
/var/lib/php is out of your reach(unless you have root privileges on your server.
Ask your host if session.save_path is correct (/var/lib/php/session)

I would check your storage directory permissions first.

May be the problem is here : there is NO Watermark directory in g2data/plugins_data/modules ??
The module would create this directory.
Head to:
http://www.yoursite.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.SiteAdmin&g2_subView=watermark.WatermarkSiteAdmin
and upload your watermark image.
