Can't alter memory allocation

Gallery version : 2.3
PHP version : 5.2.12

Webserver : Not sure.
Database : MySQL 5.0.89
Activated toolkits (e.g. NetPbm, GD): No sure.
Operating system : Linux
Browser : Firefox 3.6.4
Web Host : Heart Internet

Need a work-around if possible please?
Just want to see if it's possible. Is there a work-around for the memory allocation for the gallery please?
My provider has set the memory allocation to 8MB but the Gallery DEMANDS (soooo demanding) 16MB.

Is there a way round it at all please?
I'm 90% sure my hosting provider will say one of two things if I ask them to increase the allocation.. 1) "tough" 2) CHA-CHING (£/$)
