A 2 column Gallery Display for main page

I read alot of html posting but nothing specifically stating examples of a 2 column gallery for the main page.

The default is 5 rows with a single column. The single column allows to much white space between text to the next row text. If I could put 2 albums side by side it woud decreace the need to fill up the white space with text.

Is this possible?

I added a sidebar but would like to know if a 2 column gallery view is possible.
