Hello I am building another site and want to use Gallery3 in this one. I would like to embed it into one of my 3 column layouts here. My we host has Gallery2.1 as an addon and makes it easy to in stall a Gallery but not so much embed it where I want it. Eventually I want to add some FlashYourWeb stuff as short videos can be halpful to me. I want the sinplest looking Gallery out there as I like my sites theme very much and dont want to detract from it. Heres my crap Gallery I have now which is not add photo or video friendly |

Gallery3 doesn't yet have any embed type functionality like Gallery2 does. Right now the best you can do is create a new theme for G3 that looks like your site.
Also, Gallery 2.1 is very, very old and has known security issues with it. Highly recommended to upgrade, latest and probably last version is 2.3.1

Has this issue been cleared up yet? I embedded my gallery3 into my site and there are sliding bars. Should I use gallery2 instead? I don't like the idea at all that I caint embed into my existing page, I want my entire site to be consistent

G3 won't have an exposed embed API until 3.1(in the works) there is no release schedule set.
G2 is still very viable and easy to embed - I have a simple form

Aaah, I guess I will just have to install Gallery 2 then! Why would they remove functionality for embedding? Am I the only one using this functionality?
Thanks!

G2 took years to have a full feature set.

I can see where your confusion is coming from since the naming formats, G2 & G3, suggests that one is a build up of the other.
Actually, G3 is a totally different application to G2 and has nothing in common with G2 except being written by the same crew who just happened to have given them similar names.
The best way to look at the two is how you would look at, say, Coppermine and Zenphoto for instance. So imagine a bunch of developers got together and wrote Coppermine. Then later on, they got together again and wrote Zenphoto. Two completely different applications. Basically none of the code from one is present in the other. You don't upgrade from Coppermine to Zenphoto, you move from one to the other. The same applies to G2 and G3.
Nothing was removed, nothing was added.
Just two totally different applications with different functionalities that just happen to have the same name plus an iterated number and were written by the same crew.

That makes total sense now. I just installed Gallery2 and am playing around with it. I've come up with an error in some of the plugins, for instance ffmpeg. I didn't get this with gallery3. Any ideas? Thanks for all your help!
FFMPEG Settings
FFMPEG is a graphics toolkit that can be used to process video files that you upload to Gallery. You must install the FFMPEG binary on your server, then enter the path to it in the text box below. If you're on a Unix machine, don't forget to make the binary executable (chmod 755 ffmpeg in the right directory should do it)
The exec() function is disabled in your PHP by the disabled_functions parameter in php.ini. This module cannot be used until that setting is changed.
Here is what my php.ini file settings are
session.save_path = /data/tmp
upload_tmp_dir = /data/tmp
asp_tags = On
register_globals = On
safe_mode = Off
upload_max_filesize = 128M
output_buffering = 1024
mime_magic.magicfile = /usr/share/misc/file/magic.mime
memory_limit = 128M
include_path = .:/usr/services/vux/lib/php
allow_url_include = 1
allow_url_fopen = 1
extension_dir = /usr/services/vux/php5/lib/php/extensions
extension = "ZendOptimizer.so"
max_execution_time = 30 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds

Really? how 1996ish
G3 adjusts some key php settings in .htaccess
you can use the same method for G2, just look to G3's .htaccess for examples

ok, I have installed g2 and embedded it into my site. I picked the "Floatrix" theme and it's ALMOST how I want it! Here's what I need to figure out how to do now:
- Remove the Gallery logo in the upper left hand corner. I still want to give credit in the footer, though.
- Change the color to the same backgroun in my existing website (I think this would involve editing a .css file somewhere, or creating a customized color pack, neither which I know how to do)
- Remove all the breadcrumb links, and the Site Admin, Your Account, and Login/Logout links
- Default size to 320x (it defaults to 640x and I want that as a size choice, but not the default)
- If a user clicks on the Gallery2 icon in the lower right hand that it opens up in a whole new page, not inside the iframe
Here's a link to my photo page: http://www.4-tacres.com/photos.htm
I really like BOTH iterations of Gallery but I think G2 is what I need to do the embedding for now. Maybe once I get better at this I'll revisit using G3.
Thanks for all your help! Great work, great app!

I think the best bet is to start a new thread in the proper forum (G2)
I will get you started:
