Can not Enable View Counts on Carbon Theme

Although I have showViewCount=True in my G2/themes/carbon/templates/album.tpl and have installed the "Image Block" for both "Album" and "Photo" pages, I still do not see any view counts. I do see an unwanted "Random Image" at lower left corner of web pages. How do I control that?

I have read through all the Forum postings on this subject, and been unsuccessful. I'd really like to have all the album and photo view counts as seen in G1.x!

Help!
