Hi all,

I am currently running the photogallery from Coppermine, but I am not satisfied with it. I would like to make a switch to Gallery3, but before I do, I'd like to know if:

1) it's possible for my users to register for Gallery3 and upload their own pictures in predetermined albums?

2) it's possible to restrict the number of uploaded pictures per user?

3) there's a solid working captcha to avoid Russian and Chinese spammers to register?

4) there's a way to import my current Coppermine database so I won't lose any pictures from my current gallery?

5) it's advisable to install Gallery3 or should I start with Gallery2 to be safe?

I hope to get a little help. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

1. yes if you set permissions for those users in specific albums. There is a registration module and a userhome module.
2. no. G2 has a similar feature though.
3. recaptcha and akismet
4. Not to G3 yet. But you can import from CM to G2 then to G3. http://codex.gallery2.org/Other_Clients#Coppermine
5. Up to you. G3 is still beta so be prepared to do frequent upgrades.

Dave

Hi FloriDave,

Thanks for your answer. According to your response I guess I am better off downloading and installing Gallery2 than Gallery3, until Gallery3 is out of the beta stage.

Good to hear that my current Coppermine database isn't doomed :-)

Thanks again.

Did all the spammer coming from Russia or China?
Or are you only welcome spammers from the rest of the World?

About 98% of the spammers I get on my Coppermine gallery is either from .ru or .cn. Of course I didn't mean to discriminate in any way: spammers from all countries are not welcome on my website, but that's a given :-)
