like everybofy i have a huge photocllection of RAW and CR2 files on my home server. Now i'm bringing the server online and i am looking for a software which can act as a frontend and display those photos on a private page so i can share some of the pics. But as i'm quite a beginner in unix i have some security issues. Is there any good practices to set up gallery 2 without the rights to delete the images but at the same time manipulate their .xmp pairs? Does gallery handle xmp's at all?

You can't use G2 (or G3, I think) as a front-end for an existing library of images. G2 will only work with its own, private, secure, locked-down copies of images, copies which are created when you import the images into G2. Neither G2 nor G3 will manipulate .xmp files. G2 can import CR2 files with an optional add-on, but it's terribly terribly slow.

So maybe a recommendation for a right piece of software?

Not from me, sorry - G2 is perfect for my needs.
