Need new users to be able to create albums right after they register - now they are just guest until i do it manually thanks crazykeywest.com |

Check out the User Albums module:

If you need more, it all depends on how you want to do it. Does each user have their own album? Are you utilizing Groups and assigning permissions to groups instead of users? (you really should be doing that if you have it set so that a bunch of users have the same permission on an album)
Do all users have the same permissions to everything? If so, just assign permissions to the Registered Users group.
