Keeping file numbers down

Hey guys.. I'm a G3 user primarily but also run a G2 gallery ~ my problem ~ My G2 installation has over 30k cache files! Is there a simple way to keep these to a minimum? Speed is not an issue for my application at all (G2 is a fall-back for my experimental G3)

no, there's no easy switch, as far as i remember.

first, note that the cache folder includes thumbnails and resizes. you definitely want g2 to keep those around since they're very slow to generate.
maybe you'll want to remove the entity cache (basically 1+ files on disk for every album, image, thumb, resize, user, group, comment, etc.). it might even improve performance to do so. but you'll have to hack g2's code.
