Can Gallery do this?

I've been looking for a way to accomplish my wishes, but I haven't been able to find anything - please excuse me, if I have missed it. Here is what I want to accomplish:

I have an online (web)server that I use to backup my pictures (and there's a lot) (using rsync by the way). I have the pictures organized in folders (=albums) and I would like to be able to watch these using Gallery to get all the nice features of this product. I have installed Gallery successfully, and I saw that I can create albums with pictures using symbolic links to the "real" images located elsewhere on the webserver (the backup folder). That's nice! But I want Gallery to "automatically" see the structure and images in my backup folder and replicate this to an album structure with the images within (as symbolic links). It would just take too long to do this job manually and I want to be able to update when new pictures are added to the webserver, removed from the webserver or updated on the web server.

Can I perform this automation somehow? Here's the options I might find could be the solution:
- Click a button in Gallery to have it pickup the folder structure (that would be nice :))
- Call some sort of web service (which? how?) from remote in a program that knows the folder structure, so it immitates what could be done manually in the admin UI.
- Your suggestions!

I have created an image UI application which do the job for me (see http://img.ozo.dk), but I would like all Gallery's benefits in my image UI).

Any comments/suggestions are highly appreciated

This question gets asked quite often. Have you searched on this forum for previous answers?

If I had a link, I would have posted it. Search criteria... um, dunno, try automatic scan folder import batch job cron dropfolder update - use your imagination.
You'll always get better help in this forum if you put some work in yourself. It's just human nature when you ask people to help you.

There is no automatic scan of existing folders to add items to gallery.

May not be exactly what you're looking for but he appears to have gotten a cron job working to scan a directory for files and import those into Gallery.
