Strange tag-behavior?

Hi! I just noticed that tags are not necessarily behaving as the ordinary user would expect. Let me give you an example - lets say I want to browse for wedding shoes for the bride at our wedding gallery. When I click the right tag ("brudesko") it shows up like http://www.bryllup.dk/bryllupsgalleri/index.php/tags/204 But then things go mad If I click an image, I - as the typical user - would expect to see this image. For instance, http://www.bryllup.dk/bryllupsgalleri/index.php/Diverse_bryllupsbilleder/Billeder_af_brudesko/billeder_af_brudesko_sko_til_bryllup_023.jpg But that's not what happens. If I click the image (any image, in fact), it doesn't show the given image, but returns to the GALLRY that has the given image........... then I have to browse around the gallery to find the image I wanted to see in the first place. I'm not sure if this is a bug because of the the beta-stage, or if it's because it's the way you guys wanted it to be. In any case I would really like to "fix" it, because I really think that most users will go "eh, what happened?" when they don't get the image they clicked :] Kenneth WedMore Lund |

please file a feature request for the expected behavior.

But there's really no request other than: "Show me the picture I clicked"
Wouldn't you expect to see the image you clicked on, when searching via tags, just like when searching via albums?

If I click on the first image in the "tags/204" page, it directs to an album ("index.php/Billeder_af_brudesko") as you've described. If I click on the second image ("billeder af brudesko sko til bryllup 022"), it directs to that images page ("index.php/Billeder_af_brudesko/billeder_af_brudesko_sko_til_bryllup_022.jpg"). I suspect that the issue is that you've tagged both photos and albums and are thus getting both on your tags page. If you tag an album and then click on that album on the tag page Gallery doesn't direct to the photo shown for the album thumbnail, it directs you to the actual album.

But wouldn't you agree, that no matter what image you click on, the typical user expectation would be to see that image?

Yes, your typical user is probably not going to know how to distinguish between an album and a photo, and would thus get confused if they click on an album expecting it to be a photo But I think this is less of a tag issue and more of a theme issue. When you're in album view, album links have a little album icon next to them while photo's don't. This icon is missing from the tag view, making it harder to distinguish between the two.

One could argue that if the album is tagged with a word then all item in that album should be tagged with that word. But I bet there is an argument for the other side of the coin as well.
How do other photo tagging applications work in this regard? Can you research us an example and post your findings?

True, but if that's what you want to do, then there's a module for it
