Reduce number of files by eliminating resizes

I'm hosting at hostmonster.com which has imposed a 50000 file count limit. The way gallery3 currently works is original..resize..thumbnail right? So I have my own personal gallery with around 11000 photo's which in turn becomes 33000 files due to the resizes and thumbnails.

I was wondering is there a way for me to eliminate resizes altogether since I upload my photos in 1024 x 768 anyways (Its more for memories and viewing purposes among family/friends and nothing else). This would effectively reduce my number of files to double rather than triple.

What do you guys think?

Have you tried making changes to the theme:
admin -> appearance -> theme options. Adjust the resize and see if the resize is not generated.

I tried that (both rebuilding and adding new images) resizes are still being generated. Plus I would think if resizes aren't generated the permissions setup could maybe break? Another option I think would work is for gallery3 to delete the full size images (since my resize and full size are the same).

Interesting. I think we could support this configuration by removing the resize. The trick is to figure out how to avoid placing the burden on the theme code to deal with this, and I'll have to think that through. Please file a feature request for this, thanks!

Hi,

I think this is pretty important too. For my Gallery 2 sites, I always size images at about 600px longest dimension. I don't put larger images in Gallery as the on-line storage and bandwidth would be excessive. Also I want to keep my full size images off shared servers for security reasons.

What is needed is an option switch in Gallery 3 to eliminate the creation of resizes as per the feature request ticket above.

Cheers and keep up the good work.
