I've been beating my head against the wall trying all the suggestions for uploading pictures to
Gallery3 (Gallery 3.0 pre beta 2 (git) from my Ubunto desktop using both Firefox and Opera.
I consistently received download error:417.
I had a brainstorm - tried it on my windows xp and it works, no matter which browser I use.
Just thought I'd save somebody the lumps on their head trying to use their Ubuntu box to test the new software.
BTW, the linux box where I was testing is the same box that the server is on.

Ubuntu 9.04 and Adobe Flash Player plugin version 10

64bit or 32bit? It may or may not matter.
I'm getting the same behavior as you on my Ubuntu 9.04 laptop with FF and Flash 10, 64bit. I'm looking into how to downgrade to an older version of flash, if one is even available for 64bit. Also going to try some of the flash alternatives on Linux. Though quite frankly the other flash player alternatives I've tried in the past just suck, maybe it's 64bit, maybe it's just that they are behind the times, but they just didn't work on some sites I use that require or use flash. Adobe's flash player version 10 has been flawless (except for uploading to G3) I do know even Gmail degrades to using it's old style uploader for attachments when accessing from Linux (at least for me) when using FF on Windows it has it's cool, sleek progress bar.
I do know the devs are working on enhancing the upload feature, right now it's flash only. I assume since they all work in Linux they've tested it there, but I don't know what they're running or have tested for sure....

Can you try a different version of Flash player, like 9?
What about a flash player alternative?
Don't ask me about how to do it, I have to hit Google every time I want to do something like that in Ubuntu

I'm not going to worry about it, I'm sure the developers are aware of the problem (assuming some of them use Ubuntu) and will fix it in a future release and if they aren't I would be glad to post a trouble ticket (if I knew where) to help them out. I feel really helpless here since I am not a php programmer I am not able to help in the development, yet I am anxiously awaiting the finished product.

By the way, I just tried uploading from another linux box (Ubuntu 8.04) and it works, it must be something to do with the fact that the browser is on the same box as the server

No, I'm convinced it has something to do with the flash version. It doesn't work for me on Ubuntu 9.04, Firefox and Flash 10. I'm not running my site on my workstation. There's no GUI installed on my server, so I can't test from there.

I just upgraded from flash player 9 to 10 on my 8.04 ubuntu and it still worked - so I dunno
This guy has instructions on downgrading to version 9 if you want to try it - he's talking about 8.04 but I assume it's still applicable for 9.04.
