Last three days I tried to upgrade to the last code (3-4 times), but when I open gallery I always got blank white page. Last working version of gallery is "gallery-gallery3-067e9f8ef7c7ed5763a5290b0e8d2f4a48123a86".
I'm using:
# PHP: 5.2.6
# MySQL: 5.0.67-community
I will send other information if you need.

What if you wipe everything and start over not just upgrade?

Thank you floridave,
I erased database and everything on server and it seems it works.
I did translation to Czech language and the API number is changed now. Does it mean anything for me?
I don't know about translations. The translation server is being worked on for you to submit translations. Beyound that I don't know.

I'm having the same problem... upgrade leaves me with a blank screen... How would you suggest upgrading now without damaging uploaded content?

If you're using an Alpha version, there is no way. You need to start a new db, everything.
If you're using the beta, http://bit.ly/g3up

I'm still getting a blank screen on upgrade... I'm using a beta from about a week ago, and if I unzip the new code over my existing installation I produce the same problem every time.
Can anyone help me?

If there is nothing in the logs and you did the directions nivekiam posed then you could try to start over with a recent GIT version and try again.

Still having the problem...
I tried making a new instance of G3 using the latest GIT version, copied the var folder across and still same error... I also, now that I think about it, copied across the database content... was I not supposed to do that somehow?

Ok... I've tried making a new instance and just copying in the var folder... still gives me a blank index.... Ahhh...
I'm really keen for latest version now!

Start really fresh, NO var, NO database
Just a fresh, clean, new install.

And what about my image captions, descriptions, tags...... comments....??? There's got to be a better way nivekiam

You're using beta software. You'll find no compassion here
EDIT: by 'here', I mean from me. You shouldn't be using this on a production site.
Try a fresh install into a different directory, different database and see if things are working there.

Even if it was proprietary, closed source, non-free beta software, you still shouldn't be using alpha or beta software it in a production environment that you rely upon.
Read the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs:
http://gallery.menalto.com/gallery_3.0_beta_1_released
Beta 2 is most likely going to have similar of even the exact same statements.

Ok ok... I still think Gallery is the best app in development, and my enthusiasm endures! Last question and we can let this thread die ~ Actually I'll ask it in features forum...

Having the same trouble. Well I was, then I switched over to the default theme before upgrade and then I at least get the header, but nothing else. If this is just simply a "can't upgrade from this to that" issue I'm curious why more people haven't seen it...
Default theme? Right now G3 only has 1 theme shipping with it. What did you upgrade from or to? Are you using the latest G3 code from git or did you download the Beta?

I had my own theme created. Upgraded from beta1 to the latest code I downloaded today.
edit-installing fresh with new db works fine. Just a bummer to not be able to upgrade.

Have you gone to /gallery3/index.php/upgrader ?

I sure did, and it said everything went just fine.

The fresh install works fine, however I'm trying to import from my g2, and I don't think it sat on "Starting up" this long with beta1....

Now this is interesting. After 1/2 hour of "starting up" I paused it and went to the dashboard. It said I have 2 albums. I go to the gallery, and I get a blank page again.

Just echoing this issue - happened for me too. But then I learned how to fix it.
Firstly, I was told to just unzip into same directory. I made a backup of /gallery and then I unzipped the latest version into /gallery. I got just a blank screen when I went to my URL. I also tried running /installer and it said success - but it wasn't.
Then, I tried this: I went to http://gallery.<myurl>/index.php/upgrader (as stated here) and it showed a list of items, all with the same number beside them (installed/available) with the 'Gallery3' item highlighted. I clicked 'Upgrade All' and it said it had upgraded.
But, I thought that this had automatically done the upgrade (I'm used to Wordpress doing this). It hadn't. The tip-off was that all the numbers (installed/available) were the same.
So, I followed the other instructions on that upgrade page (!!):
- I downloaded the latest experimental version from git
- I uploaded it to my webserver
- I unzipped it (it unpacked into, as expected, a very long directory name)
- I copied the 'var' directory from my old /gallery subdirectory to a known place (remember, I had kept a backup before I had started anything, above)
- I renamed /gallery to /gallery-original
- I renamed the very long unpacked directory to /gallery
- I copied the var directory from the known place into /gallery
- I went to http://gallery.<myurl>/index.php/upgrader
- This time the installed/available numbers in the list differed!
- It did the upgrade (I assume) -- there was no definitive proof though (see next point)
Is there a way that the dashboard info about the version could say more about the version, other than just "Version: 3.0 pre beta 2 (git)" -- how will I know which date it was pulled from?
Thanks,
~Andrew~

Well I just tried again with a new download. Unzipped, renamed, copied old /var over, ran upgrader (it said it was already done, but I hit the upgrade button anyway) and it works. Must've been something about that particular download or something...

You have to remember i guess. This is beta software and you can expect some bugs. If you encounter a major issue like this again, delete everything and start over.

Unfortunately, git doesn't make it easy for us to tag each download
And don't be hard on floridave and nivekiam for not having compassion.. you have to poke around the forums to see what they're enduring before you can really grasp the scope of what crazy stuff people expect for free

I have same problem. Gallery index page source code seems this:
Are you using the latest code from git? (see link in bharat's sig above for a link to that)
Does your gallery3/var/logs directory show any errors?
My G3 install shows some inline CSS above this
That's not in yours and mine is a fresh pull from this morning.

I made a FAQ out of this: http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:FAQ#Why_am_I_seeing_a_blank.2C_or_partially_blank_page.3F see if it helps!

Are you using PHP 5.3? Looks like you're hitting this issue: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/gallery/ticket/194
Choices are to downgrade to PHP 5.2 or wait until we fix it.
