G3 is not going to be released for windows and as such I am going to setup a linux server. I will research this on the net but as I will only be running gallery I wanted advice from G3 users first.

What version of linux should I use? I am downloading Ubuntu server and Fedora as I type this. are these going to be ok?

Can I use the desktop versions of these of would you recommend the server.

I have never used linux before so any other advice would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Yes, go with Ubuntu. No flame wars please. Ubuntu is by far and above the easiest distro to transition into for a Windows user. Their user community is huge and if you run into a problem (at least in my case) someone else has had the same issue and resolved it. NO OTHER distro I've ever tried (mandrake, suse, fedora, centos, etc) is even close to the support you'll get with Ubuntu (or Debian since they are so dang similar). Although the Linux support community has evolved over the years and the basement dwelling "RTFM" butt heads seem to have been suppressed and don't popup nearly as much as they use to, but you'll still run into them, even on the Ubuntu forums.
