Gallery3 is supported by the toolkit GraphicsMagick. This toolkit is very efficient and
can handle many different graphics file formats.

I want to use jp2 or jpeg2000 images for my photos. I tried to upload and view them.
When trying to upload I do not get the confirmation that the images are uploaded.
This works fine with jpg images:

GraphicsMagick version: 1.2.5 (current version is 1.3.5).

Does anybody used jp2 or jpeg2000 images already. Firefox (windows, all versions) has
no problem to handle jpeg2000 or jp2 images.
Google and you find the plugin for installation.

Filesize drops by about a third when switching from jpg to jp2/jpeg2000 images !!!

PS: I like Gallery3 so much. Excellent work !!!

In my opinion if a user has to add a plugin to the browser then I suspect that support for this will be out of scope for the core setup.
I guess when browsers nativity support this file type, and when digital cameras produce this format, then widespread support will come.

Thank you for your comment.
I found out that jp2 or jpeg2000 is not supported by proprietary plugins like flash and other.
If I have more time I might look into alternatives. The plugin itself is less than 300 KB and can be automatically
installed (by some lines of software added to the server software). It is opensource and can be included in
opensource browsers relatively easily.

Jp2 or jpeg2000 will be supported by many camera manufactures in the future because it is much more efficient than jpeg.
At a 10 MB camera storage requirements is definately an issue and cost factor!

Can you provide more info about this.
