Umm.. I'm wondering if there is a gallery2 cms integrated web software out there that can work with camera movies of .avi and .mov scan them in the way that G2 and G does and then re-encode them to flash/flv and create a listing of them.. I know gallery has allowed movies but I assume it's never done this..

So my question is again.. is there software out there like G2 for camera movies?

Gallery, with the right toolkits can transcode movies to flv.
You need a fairly hearty ffmpeg binary on your server, and the transcode module.
And then gallery can display them like this or even possibly like this.

Will these videos be.. "progressive download" meaning will they start playing the second you click play as it downloads?

Well yes, unless you have a flash media server ($2500) in your back pocket.

So you've used the Transcode module?

My recent update has squashed many bugs, including the notorious missing audio codec bug.

I just serverside encoded this 480p movie trailer from quicktime.mov to flv with the latest transcode module.
Not bad IMO

Your right.. not bad.. hmm.. the other problem I had with transcode is just that it seemed to cause software crashes.. then again I'm also facing gallery2 software crashes I have to fix..

I will attempt some re-encoding experiments when I have a chance.. thanks :)
