-I've found that having people link to you because you relate to what they are is the best way to increase page rake....
-If you have a niche then exploit it. (You'll never get a high ranking with something like say "computer sales" but you might with say "-yourtown- computer sales" or "-specific purpose- computer sales"
My mother owns the website "oklahomahomeschool.com"... someone types "homeschooling in oklahoma" she gets 4th.... someone types "how to homeschool" she gets 10th. someone types "homeschool" . ... nowhere near the top.
-google still likes html better than flash.
-Google likes domain names that have the keywords people are going to type looking for you. (oklahomahomeschool was a winner for her)
But if your site stinks and nobody wants to link to it then you are screwed. Link farms (fake links to your site . . .used to work (and prob do for people that do it for a living . .. but google changes how it looks at stuff so often the best way to get rank is to network with other sites (only ones that relate).
I have a friend that had an online oil and fragrance business and had a good ranking until they tried to diversify there website . ... they weren't niche anymore .. .. they started selling sunglasses/tshirts/ and fake okleys (sp). Unreleted things on your site and unrelated links to your site actually hurt you.
