The following information is required to get an answer:
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).

Gallery URL (optional but very useful):http://saturdaymorninghuddle.com/gallery/albums.php?set_albumListPage=1

Gallery version:Powered by Gallery v1.5

Apache version:Where do I find this information?
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please):PHP v4.4.7 is OK.

Graphics Toolkit:?????

Operating system:?????

Web browser/version (if applicable): Explorer and/or Firefox

This is a little complicated. I am Barry Spears. In 2005 I started a site called SaturdayMorningHuddle.com. For business reasons I later changed the title of the site to Huddletime.com. I had a webmaster, Damon Sunde build both versions of the site. He included Gallery for my pictures. I have always been very please with the working of Gallery. Now how ever I have a problem.

Some time back the order of the albums scrambled...don't know why, and it was to tedious to try to manually reorder them so I left them as they were...no big deal. Now a new set of problems. I recently try to load a new album, could not finish at that time, stopped and cam back to it later. Now I cannot add new photos to the album. At first nothing would happen when I clicked "add photos" Later, I was able to load a few new shots...but...only a few of the first ten I tried to load actually went to the page, and several of those reloaded several times. Not the duplicate shots will not delete. Bottom line, I can't finish loading that album and I don't think I can even start another new one.

I had to register for a new account, as jbs780 to be able to post this message as Damon Sunde is no longer working as my webmaster and does not recall the pertinent information regarding the account or page.

The page URL is:

http://saturdaymorninghuddle.com/gallery/albums.php?set_albumListPage=1

I don't know how to find most of the information you asked for above and hav no idea what the original account username or password is/was.

Please help.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Hello Barry,

from your posting i see this problems:

- Sometimes the order of albums is scrambled
- You can not add photos to a new album
- You can not create more new albums
- You don't have the username and login for the admin account

is that correct?

Yes for the most part that is correct. I can probably start another new album, but I don't want to try untill I have the other problems resolved...so I can finish the one that is started...currnently "UNTITLED"...before starting another one. I have a whole bund of High School football players anxious to see thier pictures!

Thanks,
Barry

Hi Barry,

please try to be exact.
Comment on every of the bulletpoints.

Because some of those can NOT be solved.
The only solution is an upgrade for example to Gallery Version 2.

OK...Sometime back, the order of the albums scrambled. The albums thememselves, seem to bo OK, but the are not longer in the order in which they were origianally posted. I don't know how or why this is the case. I didn't do anything to make this happen but they many of them are now all over the place. I have always tried to ;post albuims in the order in which I hope vistors to the sit will view them...which is to say the order in which the events took place.

Regarding adding new photos to albums...I recently started a ne album for the first time is a while. After I got the first ten or so shots posted, nothing would happen when I would click on "add photos" so I could not get the page up with the browser buttons. Can't get to that page...can't add photos.

I logged off and came back later...now I could get the browser page back...once but could only get a few of the new pics I was trying to post onto the page...two or three shots loaded several times while others did not load at all.

I tried to delete the duplicates...and nothing would happen. Now this might have been a case of a delete page poping up UNDER THE PAGE I was trying to delet from instead of on top of it, so I dodn't know it was there and thought the thing was doing nothing at all. That MAY be what was happening with that.

I would like to finish the new album I have started before going on to the next one.

If I upgrade...well...first of all, what is involved in all that, and second, will I lose all the albums already posted? Or will they transfer? I have no idea how to set up a new link between my site and Gallery...my former webmaster did all that. I'm sure its not hard...but i just don't know how do to it.

Regarding the original username and password...well I don't know what either is. My webmaster gave me the username and pasword he used to logon to the page to post pictures, but I have no idea if that is what I would use here, so I created a new account to be able to post here.

Hi Barry,

i think i understand you now.

I explain what happens on your website.

Gallery 1.x was designed over 8 years ago for a private website and then it became famous.
But the code was not well designed and does not scale very good.
Means Gallery 1.x consumes a lot memory and becomes slow or unusable after a certain amount of pictures.
So if your PHP memory limits are in a normal range you have problem starting at ~ 5000 pictures.
If your have higher limits, you get them later...
You have 9103 pictures.

This is the reason why some of your Gallery page do not load or some action just stop and do not finish.
If you want to stick with G1 the only solution: increase memory limits of the PHP

Gallery 1 does also do not use any real database. It just uses files.
To speed some things a little the order of the main albums is saved "cached" in a file.
If a lot user access your Gallery, and/or your server is on a high load and/or you have a lot pictures (for a G1, see above) then the file with the order sometimes gets damaged and Gallery creates a new one that might have different order.
I tried to fix this with some enhancements in 1.5.2, but its not completely fix.
So there is no real solution for this, except more CPU power and higher memory limits.

G2 solves ALL of your problems ;-)

About your question:

1) What is involved?
three things:
- Gallery 2 installation
- Import of data from Gallery 1 into Gallery2
- Integration of Gallery 2 into your website (which is a postNuke installation)

A new installation of Gallery2 requires a database (mysql, postgresql, oracle, db...) Most webspaces should have this.
If your webspace has a DB, then you can easily install G2. It comes with a great installer.

The import is not that complicated, it just takes some time.

The integration is a bit tricky, but we/or partnersites like nukedgallery.net/ can help you.

2.) Will i lose all the albums?
NO!
You install G2 totally separate and then import G1 data.
So nothing is lost. Technically spoken its not an upgrade, its a migration.

3.) Will they transfer?
No. See above.

Last, not least:
THIS page (gallery.menalto.com) is 100% not connected to your Gallery.
So the username/password from this site has nothing to do with your Gallery (and vice versa).

OK...That explains a lot...like wha the problem is and why it cam up. I of coarse have no idea of what to do now...that is HOW to do it. Is this something you can guide me through, or do I need t oget my former webmaster to hold my hand...if he can/will? At least I know now that there is a solution! 8^)
