'Photo Properties' feature in 1.5.8

After upgrading to 1.5.8 from 1.5.4 I noticed that there is a select menu with 'Photo Properties' as the only item under each photo in the thumbnail view. On the other hand the 'Photo Properties' button was gone in the individual photo view page. Is this intentional? Did I mess something up during the upgrade?
