I recently installed Gallery 2.2.5, added about 13,000 images in multiple albums and sub-albums and was doing maintenance. In the item, "Build all thumbnails/resizes", it went to completion, but seemed to produce errors (see attached file). What does it all mean? Should I be concerned?

Webserver Apache 2.2.8

I have heard of the need to rebuild thumbnails in chunks rather than the entire bunch at one time to be compatible with some hosting provider's CPU utilization requirements. Possibly you have slammed into such a barrier?

Try choosing to rebuild thumbnails for one smallish album at a time and see if it works successfully that way.

Thta's a good thought, but under maintenance, it doesn't give you that choice. It's either all or nothing. Also, when I look in maintenance now, it says the previous run was 'success' with 2 failures. Does that mean only 2 thumbnails out of 13,000 didn't work? If so, how do I find which ones?

I would try a different toolkit GD has issues with memory.
FAQ: I am having trouble configuring a graphics toolkit (ImageMagick, NetPBM or ffmpeg). Help?

BTW; The main task is build not rebuild.

GOOD suggestion. I installed Image Magick and reran the maintenance. It fixed the problem thumbnails and completed in less than a minute. I will no longer use GD...Thanks!!

I too can attest to ImageMagick being far better than GD. I have IM as my top priority toolkit, NetPBM I think second, and GD disabled.

Can anyone please help me? I have installed the Gallery 2.3.1. I too have almost 13000 images. But when I click on the Build all thumbnails under the maintenance page my scan does not get to the end. It will stop in the middle like the page has timed out. I have uninstalled Gd and am only using ImageMagick. I can give links to both the php5.ini info file and also the link to the gallery.

Any help on this is very much appreciated. Thanks

On a shared server, at nearly any host and especially low-end operators such as GoDaddy, you probably shouldn't be running such large processes anyway.

I'm betting it just never gets to the end, ah, yeah, that's what you said.

Best bet would be to break this stuff into smaller chunks and click on Edit Album > Album (tab) and select options on that page to rebuild thumbs and/or resizes. This way you'll have a bit more control over just how much work the server has to do and probably have better luck of getting the process done.
