'edit sub-item'

I have been using Gallery for the last 5 years with students and very happy with it. I continue to have one small problem. I create all of my students albums and usernames with an add-bulk-user script. I want to set G2 permissions so students can EDIT the sub-items they upload to their album but not be able to edit their album (this is to prevent them from changing or deleting their sub album). Every semester 4 or 5 students manage to delete their entire album. I tried setting the owner of the album to either the admin or the actual teacher, but when I try to set permissions for the user, I only see an option to allow users to ADD sub-items, but no choice to allow users to EDIT those sub-items which were uploded without allowing the user to have access to editing and deleteing the parent album. Any way to do this?

No, not currently possible. Edit means changing, deleting, etc. There isn't a specific Delete permission that you can add or remove. If they can edit, they can delete.

EDIT: OOPS, I'm off base here. There is a specific delete permission. So you could remove the delete permission and basically make an "upload only" album. You can give them Add sub-item and Edit item and even Add sub-album permissions and just be sure to remove the Delete permission so they can't delete anything. Be sure to not give them the ability to edit permissions, otherwise they'll be able to change the permissions.

I'd play around with those permissions to see if you can get what you're looking for.
