The following information is required to get an answer:
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful): http://dtuttle.com/v-web/gallery
Gallery version: trying to upgrade 1.4.3-pl2 to 1.5.7
Apache version: I can't find this?!
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please): 4.4.7
Graphics Toolkit: Can't find this either?
Operating system: of the server, or my computer?
Web browser/version (if applicable): I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.6

Sorry about the missing information, but my problem is WITH the configuration wizard. I tried to upgrade from 1.4.3-pl2 to 1.5.7. I copied the files using the FTP method.

When I run the configuration wizard, I have two "serious warning, but optional" errors: Register globals and Jhead installed.

When I press the Next Step button, I am redirected to the login page. I log in, and am returned to the Step 1 page. I can never get past Step 1.

Hello,

this sounds like a problem with the PHP session support.
Go to the diagnostic page and then to the session test.
Does the counter increase when you reload the page?

Okay,

so please contact your hoster and tell them that the PHP Session support is broken.

I will do that.

But I wonder why that would happen? My old Gallery was working fine yesterday. And I'm running phpBB on the same server without any problems.

Thats totally strange to me. Never seen that before.

Is there maybe a special .htaccess file in your old version?

There are .htaccess files all over the place ... I'm not sure which one is which?

Gallery has just two .htaccess files.

One (and thats the relevant) in the main folder. And one in the setup folder.

Hmm, I kept the main folder .htaccess file in place when I tried to upgrade.

Question: in the step where you are supposed to chmod the setup directory to 755, does that mean that all of the files within the setup directory are also supposed to be 755?

No, just the directory.

I tried to overcome the issue by putting in a new config.php - and although it takes me through the configuration, but apparently it's not writing to the config.php and it tells me about 80 errors found. Same issue as mentioned by other users on the forum that they can't get past step 4.

HELP!

Exactly the same versions and issue as sprinkle. Impossible to get past step 1. Restored my original version.
Session support works fine only not on the new version.

Please advise !!!
