Gallery version: 1.4.3
Apache version: 1.3.41 (Unix)
PHP version: 5.8.8
Graphics Toolkit: ImageMagick
Operating system: Linux
Web browser/version: Firefox/ IE (same problem with both)

About a month ago, I discovered that I can't login into the admin panel in the gallery. I think that it happened because there was a CHMOD value incorrect for the config.php file.

Anyway, I discovered that the "userdb.dat" & "userdb.dat.bak" files in the ".users" gallery being modified almost every day by the server (the dates of the file in the FTP are changing almost every day).

And that those files have been reset to their initial settings of the gallery, and I can't login anymore with my username & password.

In addition, all the ".bak" files with the multiple usernames I had in the gallery are still on the server (for ex. "1188844663_1608360867.bak"), but still I can't access the gallery.

What is the solution for this? (I tried to reset the password via the configuration wizard, but it didn't worked; And I tried to upload my backup files to the server, and it worked but then this problem occurred again)

What caused this problem? and is it normal that those 2 files being modified every day by the server?

Thanks a lot for any help with it!

Dear friends, I also have been frustrated with the lack of attention we have been getting on this forum. I was having the same problem as all of you. I found not only this thread but several others with the same problem and with no resolution.
I found the solution and this is how I fixed it.
I thought "there is got to be something about the word admin" , so I went straight into phpmyadmin, into the user table, and change from admin to admin2 (admin-new or whatver you like).
I tried to login with the most recent recovered password and it worked.
Hope it helps you.

Hello Skuba,

Gallery 1 does not use any database.
So phpmyadmin is totally unrelated to this problem.

Gallery 1.4.x is not compatible with PHP 5, that the problem here.
