Hi all,
I believed some of the questions I am seeking help here may have been answered somewhere but I just could not find the answers I need. So please help.
I have to recreate my site on another domain and hosting company because the old hosting kept access problems and to my dismay, I discovered that the domain which I have used for the last 5 years is actually öwned"by the hosting company despite us paying the registration every year.
We had our photos and albums on G1 running on Windows previously. We have now successfully installed G2 on a Linux server.
Instead of re-uploading and recreating all the albums & photos (hence losing the counter history & so on) we hope to be able to migrate our archive from:
- G1 to G2
- between different hosting servers
- from Windows to Linux
We are not technically inclined and so programming will be a learning curve process. Can anyone please advise how/where we can achieve that? Thanks very much.

There shouldn't be a problem -- just copy your files and database from one server to another and give it a try. If you have problems, please come back and let us know what happened.
Once you have copied your files and database, please try reading this:

Thanks for the quick reply.
I can copy the files easily as I can identify all of them under the "gallery" folder. However what files should I be looking for the database?
And I should copy all the contents of the "gallery" folder & the database into the "gallaey2" folder in the new setup?
Apologies for asking dumb questions.

I meant your gallery and "albums" folders -- I said "database" thinking Gallery2 already. Sorry about that!

ok- I have re-uploaded all the albums & setting from the old gallery1 folder into my new webserver. I then attempted to do an "import from Gallery1" in the site admin.
At " Path to Gallery 1 albums directory" I put in "/gallery/albums" which is where all my old albums from Gallery1 are residing now. After that I click "select" but nothing happens. There ar options like "choose opjects page" as described in this document:http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:migration
What to do now?? Thanks.

Tried various things incl. pointing a new album in Gallery2 to an existing album in the gallery1 directory but does not work.
No one can suggest a solution? Thanks.

Your old albums are probably *not* living at /gallery/albums -- that is most likely the *web path*, not the *file path*.
