Synchronize Gallery and photo directory

Hello,

Does anybody know if an attempt was made to develop a module to synchronize automatically Gallery 2 photo directory and database, I mean if I add a photo to the photo directory, it will be added to Gallery 2 database automatically, if I remove it, all its meta data will be erased from database, new directories would create new albums, without using the administration interface (except to add/change description, etc). I would be a nice way to manage photos and albums for those who have a direct FTP access.

I will maybe try to develop it, but if it is already started, I don't want to do the work twice.
