Strings.raw Problems

Hey.

Well I just tried translating the "About" Module and the "Linkspage" module.
Unfortunately in both folders there are only these two files: 'GNUmakefile' and 'strings.raw'
Now I obviously need a *.po file, but I CANNOT get it to convert. I do NOT have SSH/Shell access to my gallery2 installation. So how can I do it on a Windows System?

Also why don't people just append and *.pot file? That would be sooooo much easier and people could just translate files using poEdit.

Please let me know how I can get those po-files!!!!! (I know the link to the instructions, but they suck, because there's no explanation on howto do it on a different system that your webserver)

Hi

I'm having a similar problem here. I'm trying to update the French translation for Gallery2 to suit my needs (ie some parts of the core module still not translated in the latest release. I tried using poedit, to no avail. I also tried installing all the command-line tools on my windows machine and following instructions in the localization tutorial, but still cannot get a successful make.

The documentation is great if you have shell access to your webserver (which I don't have), or if you have a Linux box to mess around with (solution I'm seriously considering here). It would be great if someone could explain how to do it with poEdit on Windows, as it would be an easier way for less-experienced users to edit translations. However, I am a techie, and I am losing sleep over this right now

Here are my poEdit questions...

1. What are .POT files, and how to create them?
2. How to read the strings from the php/tpl sources?

If someone could help me with that, it would be very appreciated
