Are hidden keywords still searchable?

This is probably an easy one, but I didn't find a direct answer in the forums, and I'm a novice.

Are hidden keywords still searchable by search engines?

I don't want keywords displayed to site visitors, but still want them searchable by search engines.

I currently have them in there, but I managed to turn something off and it now says they're 'hidden'. Is this enough, or do I have to turn something else on/off to have them visibile to spider/robots/whatever?
