Hi guys,

I've searched quite a while without getting any solution to my problem, so I decided to post it here ...

After some troubles with the installer on Ubunu 7.10, I finally ended up with a successful install, but GR doesn't run smooth at all ... when I start it, there's only a grey window entitled GalleryRemote, but I can't see or use any function that should be there ...

I already did an update to the latest version (1.5.1 b35 ) without any results!

Hope that anyone can help me!

cheers, Snowlord

P.S.: I added a screencap of the window for you guys ;)

I have exactly the same problem. I did as well spend some time trying several solutions myself, searched the internet, and visited diverse online forums until i finally got it installed. took me hours. finally i logged on to my gallery but i got only a gray remote tool. Then i tried variations like : try the NoVM installer after the installation with VM and use the Sun Java. after a couple of weeks when i forgot everything i did back then, i tried it all freshly from the start. Spent several hours again and came to the same conclusion. An empty, gray GR window. I did also try the beta of Gallery Remote. Meanwhile it was 1.5.1.b36 (see screenshot of gallery remote after my login to the server.) If anybody of the GR programmers who know how to fix this installation Problems on Linux and the empty GR after logging in - then plz do so. I'm quite desperate. It works fine on Windose but on my Ubuntu 7.10 (with latest updates) it just doesn't - no matter what i try. I've read on other forums that SUSE and Fedora users have the same quirks. Linux is discriminated :'-(

If you want to save some time for not googling: To install GR you need the following trick. After DL'ing the installer do this on the command line (as root)
root@HOSCHI:~> mv GalleryRemote.1.5.Linux.VM.bin GalleryRemote.1.5.Linux.VM.bin.orig
root@HOSCHI:~> cat GalleryRemote.1.5.Linux.VM.bin.orig | sed "s/export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/#xport LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/" > GalleryRemote.1.5.Linux.VM.bin

--

now it can be at least installed...
