Prevent direct access outside of joomla

I have gallery2 in a subdirectory under joomla. I have a bridge to gallery2 installed on joomla.

I want to prevent non members from directly accessing the gallery, to be prompted by the joomla site to sign up or send them to a certain page.

Is this the only way to do it or are there others? Any security issues?

in gallery2/config.php look for :
$gallery->setConfig('mode.embed.only', false);

set to true for embed only.
