"Album Actions" not working in 1.5.7 BUT working in 1.4.4-pl2 on same server

The following information is required to get an answer:
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful):
Gallery version: 1.5.7 & 1.4.4-pl2
Apache version: 2.2.6
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please): 5.2.1
Graphics Toolkit: Netpbm (installed in localhtml folder because I'm without root access)
Operating system: Mac OS X 10.5.1
Web browser/version (if applicable): Safari 3.0.4 & Firefox 2.0.011

This may fall under previous posts but I wanted to make sure if this was a genuine bug that might need fixing, or if my config is a problem.

My host moved servers a couple weeks back, and my gallery failed. While upgrading gallery, getting Netpbm installed, and all my albums hooked in properly I noticed that the "album actions" pull down failed... some of the upgrading and installing was done to "fix" the actions, but that hasn't worked so far.

I found a thread here: http://gallery.menalto.com/node/54025, that mentions that Safari handles the javascript wrong, but it works in firefox. This is true.

However, I am concerned that this is not the sole fault of Safari. Previous to this move, and while running 1.5.6, the album actions worked. I also currently have an old gallery 1.4.4 running in the same webfolder on the same new server, that is working just fine in Safari, "admin options" included (though its config wizard is dead (nothing shows up for step 2, so I will upgrade soon)

So is this a change in the use of javascript that the newer versions use and therefore Safari's fault, or is this an honest issue that's crept into Gallery in the recent versions. And is there really no fix?
