Bonjour,

(I don't say Hi so that you understand I'm a Belgian French speaking and you will easily forgive my poor English  )

My gallery story begun 2 years ago, when I discovered the enormous quantity of paper and ink that where used in my old father's research laboratory. And I felt responsible for that because I installed a few months before a camera above that second hand microscope. Regarding the number of strange images that where rapidly generated, we should conclude it became to easy to capture pictures. Still they was printing everything just to browse it. I looked then around a few projects, Gallery was my favourite one, and today it's still the one.

The new mission was to set-up a site on this dell mono processor PIII 450 with w2k, I put apache 1.3.26, PHP 4.2.1, the gallery module 1.3 is dropped down in a Nuke portal (+MySQL 3.23.51), Nuke is just for the look in fact, I use a marvellous relaxing blue theme...
I had no experience with all that technologies (still the case), the testing and configuration script delivered with the Gallery sounded to be the best idea to make it works.
Today, the site is still not up-to-date, they are only 6557 photos in 15 albums (with approx 10 sub-albums each). This should be raised to 20000 photos in the near future.

I can not report any remarks from the research staff, just note they are calling this photo site "The Magic Site".

My two remarks will be:
- the home page is becoming more and more slow, it takes now between 30 and 35 sec. to display it (the list of albums). Even if you are not logged-in the Nuke, it takes 30 seconds to finally display the Gallery module in the home with the mention "no albums, no photos". When we browse inside an album, the browsing is much more rapid.
- also the search tool should be more powerful to me, combining more then one string together with AND, OR, WITHOUT, and also with a trigger on the date of capture.

Congratulation for the developpement team,

Hervé
