Force user posted URLs to open in a new window

My users are posting URLs in their album descriptions fields and also using the Link module to do the same thing with a thumbnail. Is there any way I can force these URLs to open in a new window? I don't like the idea of them taking visitors away from my site, but I do want to let people promote their own sites. I feel sure that this must have been discussed already but am unable to find anything.
