BBCode List and Bullet not working in Gallery2?

I have noticed that BBCode List and Bullet function doesn't work with my install of gallery2. Bullet points appear as [*] in the outputed text and anything enclosed in the list tags won't appear at all.

I checked out some other gallery2 installs on the net and found it to be the case with those (by previewing comments). Does anyone know if this is a known bug? I've searched but can find no info. I don't think it's browser related as I've tried this with IE6 PC and Apple Safari on a Mac.

- what exact version of g2 are you using?
- what theme are you using?

i guess we've seen this issue before for a specific theme. not 100% if we've fixed it already, but i think we have.

probably a missing |markup modifier in the ICE theme's templates.
please report this issue in the ICE theme discussion thread in the theme development forum.

I did talk to the author of the theme in the theme development thread: http://gallery.menalto.com/node/62567?page=2
He doesn't acknowledge the problem. Is there a way I can 'comment out' the List and Bullet buttons?

It also doesn't work in Matrix theme - which Ice is partially based on.

maybe your syntax for list items is wrong? (please post your complete comment from the edit view)
or is g2 not configured to use bbcode? (site admin -> general)

Ok - I've just tested this in Classic theme - same result, so it doesn't look like it's specifically theme related. Perhaps a PHP version issue?

I do have BBCode selected in site admin -> general, I read that raw html is too much of a security risk.
Attached is a screen grab of a comment using BBCode and it's incorrect output previewed above (posted comments appear the same as previews).

the syntax is incorrect.

the [*] tags can only be listed within the list element.

take a look at the list example at:

That's great - I tested it here and it works. On my gallery however the bulleted text (enclosed in the list tags) does not show any bullet points...!

I've tested this in Matrix theme also.

Please see attached screen grab

true, the bullets don't show up in the preview, but they show up in the posted comment (tested with the current SVN version).
please file a bug for the preview / missing bullet issue. thanks.

Will do - thanks for looking at this for me.
I would prefer to have less buttons - like the formatting ones used in this forum. Is there a .tpl file I can edit to achieve this?

Most of my users are artists and use Apple Safari browser (2.0.4) on Mac. If you try to use any of the gallery2 BBCode buttons with Safari the tags get inserted BEFORE the cursor - so your text isn't enclosed by the tags!!! very frustrating.
It doesn't happen when using Safari on this forum (as I am). I will mention this in the bug report also.

yes, I will report it separately -
Any idea which files I need to edit to take out the bullet and list buttons?
