Gallery2 as an online painted art gallery

Does anyone have experience of running G2 as an online art gallery? I'm referring to painted/drawn art rather than photography. I'm looking to set this up for my father who has an enormous collection of his own paintings that need cataloguing and some selling. It would be good to see what has been done with G2 by others to see if it would fit the bill. Even if you don't have personal experience of it, but have seen one - the link would be welcome.
