'Matrix' is the only theme I can use(?)

First and foremost, I'm not new to computers, servers, or installing/modifying PHP scripts; so it's not like I am a total idiot that has no idea what's going on. My problem is that despite the fact that I have all eight (8) themes that came with Gallery, completely uploaded and ready to go on my server; the only theme available to use in the pulldown is 'Matrix'. I wanted to give 'Carbon' a shot, but it's not in the pulldown (nor is anything else except for Matrix.) Why is this? All files are completely uploaded for each of the themes, I've already checked the obvious.

Make sure you log in as the admin user, click on the site admin link in the upper right, click plugins on the left, scroll all the way to the bottom, and make sure you click install to the right of each theme you want to use. All mine except Matrix were not yet "installed" by default. And I just installed it fresh today.
