annotated photos

a friend is an expert on stained glass and wants to create a searchable database. given a photo of a particular item, he'd like to write an article that annotates the photo. each article can include multiple photos, and each photo can appear in multiple articles. would gallery2 be a good solution for this?

i'd also like to integrate it with joomla; i understand there's some sort of bridge available.

G2 has keywords and tags both similar in that you can tag/keyword items. Then you can have dynamic albums based on those words.
Yes there is a Joomla integration. I have never used it.

Sounds like I'd have to build the application around G2. I'm hoping to find something that's more or less turnkey. I don't mind doing customization, but I'm having a hard time finding something that addresses this general kind of application.

If Joomla is not your choice then there is others:

Sounds to me like you want a CMS not a Gallery.
