Hi
I've used gallery v1 before, but I moved my site to a new host, am trying to re-install and I get a 500 ISE when trying to run the setup wizard, setup/index.php
I get this from my server log:
[time][error][my IP address]:/home/fhlinux172/f/mywebsite.co.uk/user/htdocs/gallery/setup/.htaccess: php_value not allowed here
Now sadly my host won't allow access to the php.ini file as it's a server-wide file (if I could access it, I'd use gallery v2) so is this probably the same thing? PHP config problem?
Many Thanks,
Ed

Just delete the .htaccess in the setup folder ;-)

Jens, thanks for the help, but now I have another problem
I get into the config wizard, but this is displayed at the top of the page:
Warning: exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/fhlinux172/f/mywebsite.co.uk/user/htdocs/gallery/lib/setup.php
and this in the page:
The exec() function is disabled on your server. Gallery will not function with this PHP configuration.
Any ideas??!
Many Thanks

.....I did a phpinfo and found that exec and shell_exec, to name but a few, are disabled by my host. Who won't re-enable them

Hi,
i am sorry. Gallery 1.x prior to 1.7 (released next year) NEEDS the exec() function.
So you cant run your Gallery on that server.

I am new to all this, I've tried running G2 - failed as ran out of memory 8mb not 16mb - removed it from server.
Trying G1 cant get past 500 internal Server error - some instructions in the docs say crate a php.ini in the main gallery directory, and comment stuff out of .htaccess I believe.
Sorry but this is beyond my capability as don't understand what I'm doing. This is the latest version of G1 on an Linux Server running Apache.
The documentation for installation seems incomplete, when compared to products like phpBB2 or coppermine.
I take it from this that G1 & G2 are non starters ?

Hello Digbee,
There is a .htaccess file in the setup folder of Gallery 1.x
Remove it e.g. with your FTP-Client.
The documentation of G1 might indeed incomplete, as there is only 1 (ONE) person left that develops G1.
If you like G1, you can help me making the documenation better.
I don't know what a "non starter" is.
