G1 album directory is much larger than G2

I have both G2 and G1 on my machine. I notice that the G1 /album directory is about 50% larger than the G2 /album directory, even though I have many more albums on G2. Any idea what could be causing that? Thanks much. |

g1 stores the original image files and the resized images / thumbnails all in the albums/ folders. and it stores comments and meta-data in the albums/ folder too.
g2 separates these things clearly.
- g2data/albums/ stores the original image files.
- g2data/cache/derivative/ stores the resized images / thumbs.
- comments and meta-data is stored in the database
