Gallery SlideShow (Java??)

I am hoping to integrate Gallery into a client's application to manage their photos. I have used it for personal stuff over the last four years, and it has been great for that.

All the features I need are there, but I do have one concern with my most recent version of Gallery (Gallery 2) and the slide show. In the previous version, I the slide show was fairly seemless for end-users in that they would click 'slide show' and .... they would get a slideshow similar to those they might be familiar with in other applications. Gallery 2 has changed to use Java for the slide show? Is this the only option? I am finding users get confused with the two types of slide shows (thumbnail and full sized), and then of course the enabling of the applet and displayed settings. When the full sized slideshow shows the images seem pixalated and and sized 'too large' for their actual resolution.

Am I just missing some settings to customize the slide show? Am I stuck with the java slide show? If so I might be tempted to go back to Gallery 1 which was easier and more intutitive for users.

Thanks for any pointers, and suggestions with this.
