Theme idea need help implementing

I'm trying to create a theme hack/customization where you have

in the heading

the artist bio | then the featured photo of the album

found the code to change in /themes/matrix/templates/album.tpl

Question is, how would I call a routine or write the code to pull in the featured photo for the current album?
