ok so i've heard g2 will allow the use of templates. i'm guessing this means that when i create a photo album, i'll be able to choose from a variety of different styles....like

big photo top left with description top right and thumbnails across the bottom

or

many medium sized photos along the left each with description.

is this what is planned? also, how soon before g2 release?

G2 has themes, layouts and templates.

Themes control the look of the page, ie the colors, fonts, spacing,
text weight, decoration around images, etc. Layouts control where
things appear on the page (eg, large picture top left, smaller pictures
across the bottom). Both themes and layouts are implemented using
templates (ie, the HTML is completely separate from the PHP code
so that you can modify it readily).

You'll be able to select your own theme/layout combination per album.
This means that you can use the (e.g.) "Birthday" theme with the
balloon background and the striped colors in conjuction with the
"Large-picture-top-left" layout. Your possibilities are the cross
product of layouts vs. themes.

You can modify existing themes and layouts by editting their template
files, or you can create your own themes and templates accordingly.

Right now we've only created one theme (classic) and one layout (classic).
But Ross Reyman, our new UI designer, is hard at work coming up with
a new! exciting! layout that will soon replace the classic one so you'll
be able to get an idea of what it means to switch between layouts.
