i request this feature when v2 came out, a while ago... i was wondering if there was any progress or maybe someone did 3rd party plug in that would allow me to serve banners/advertisement on my gallery website?

no, there's no ads module.

some people show google ads in their gallery by modifying their .tpl files. it's not that complicated. please use the search function for more information on the topic.

this isn't what i'm really looking for ...

i was more into showing real banners, and have ability (UI) to manage uploading banners/code into gallery, and also have some statistics on how many impressions, how many times banner should appear and so on...

how is that going to help me? I'm going to have to maintain that too! nor do i really have a need for CMS...

Just use Valiant's suggestion for google ads - it's exactly the same concept, they're both just a simple piece of HTML you need to include in your template, So just search for information on customising the template.
