I get the above error when trying to connect with GR to a new g2 installation. Works fine with old installation on previous server.
When I try upload applet I get:- Gallery Remote can find no protocol implementation at the URL http://www.stormtest4.co.uk/gallery2/
Both plugins are installed and enabled.
I can upload files individually.

I've been having the same problem since I upgraded to 2.2. I get the same error when trying to use the upload applet in the site and I get a HTTP POST error when I try to use Gallery Remote. Anyone have any information on this problem? Thanks in advance.

I downgraded to latest stable copy and everything works now.

I got exactly the same error since I upgraded to 2.2.1.
What do you meant by "downgraded to latest stable version"?
Downgrading to a previous version of gallery itself? I'm quite happy that my gallery seems to have survived the upgrade without other major problems and - after all - 2.2.1 IS the latest (and recommended) stable version.
Does this mean that Gallery Remote is just not compatible with the new version of gallery?

At the time I posted the quote the stable version was 2.1.2, and works with GR no problem.

Craig,
good for you. As for myself, I used Gallery Remote successfully about 1 hour before the upgrade. After the upgrade, I consistently get the HTTP 500 error code.
I use the latest versions of both Gallery and Gallery Remote and made no changes to the setup except for the upgrade itself. Uploading images the"traditional" way is possible.

I'm having the same problem. Someone please help.
Everything was working fine until I upgraded to the newest version. (Gallery)
I've been searching for hours about this issue and still no luck...

I too am having this same problem on 3 different installs of Gallery 2.2.2
Gallery Remote was working fine while running 2.1, but started giving me the HTTP POST failed (HTTP 500) error when trying to login with Gallery Remote (1.5 and 1.5.1 b30 on both Mac OS X.4.10 and Win XP) after I used Dreamhost's one click upgrade. Everything else I looked at seems to be working fine. I just can't login via GR.

I am also having a problem uploading to two separate installs: www.abbey.msmabbey.org/gallery2/ and www.cistercian-formation.org/photo/.
GR does not work. The upload applet does not work and the iPhoto to gallery plugin does not work. GR does not allow login.

>>>>>>HERE IS THE SOLUTION<<<<<<<<
After countless hours, days and yes months of trying to fix this issue, I came across something so obvious that I can't believe I overlooked. I owe it to myself and to everyone out there that is facing this problem. No need to keep trying to research this issue. Hope this can save a lot of you valuable time! Enjoy...
1. Download these zip files and unzipped them:
>>> "remote" (version 1.0.9) - http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gallery/g2-module-remote-1.0.9.zip
>>> "upload applet" (1.0.7) - http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gallery/g2-module-uploadapplet-1.0.7.zip
2. Open your FTP and go into your gallery folder.
3. Parent directory -> "Your gallery folder" -> modules -> scroll down and you'll see the "remote" and "uploadapplet" folders.
4. Replace these files with the updates you downloaded.
5. Log back into your Gallery -> Site Admin -> Plugins -> and the icons won't be locked anymore and you'll have the option to upgrade them!
6. Remote Gallery will now work!
ENJOY!
