moving G1 albums to G2 without a working G1?

Hi all, i've updated to a nice & clean new install of G2 and i'm ready to re-upload photos (big job, but i WILL do it manually if i have to)...

...however, i have all the original files of my old G1 gallery...it is just not up an running anymore..i read that to move G1 photos/galleries into G2 that the old G1 should still be functioning...

...is there a way to import the G1 stuff to G2 without my G1 functioning? i'm not a total web whiz but i could figure it out if someone could tell me where to put the files.
